NO:ID Showcase at Gallery150

Made by Land by Juan-José Bravo courtesy of NO: ID

NO:ID Gallery, a network of London-based artists, has now spread its tentacles all the way up to the Midlands.
With a network of almost 5000 artists, the NO:ID gallery has held over 100 shows, promoting unknown artists and artistic diversity.

At Gallery150 on 28th of February, this artist-led group will be holding a group show of featuring the work of four artists from the UK, Spain and Germany.

JUAN-JOSÉ BRAVO, from Madrid, will be presenting a cheeky series of sculptures called ‘Internal Landscapes’, which combine the use of organic materials with Perspex, resulting in works that investigate the link between the internal and the external.

London artist, VERONICA FOX creates abstract paintings on canvas, leading the observer on a fascinating journey into the realms of thought and perception.

MARTIN LAU, from London, is a photographer of Chinese-English origins. His primary interest lies in the pictorial recreation of landscapes and stills, which capture instances of life that have a life of their own.

JAN SUCHANEK, from Hamburg, is a conceptual artist, curator-presenter, and gallery manager for NO:ID . In this show, the artist will be presenting “NO:ID Queen”, now an icon of the NO:ID Gallery, where present day iconography meets with Vivienne Westwood’s, Sex Pistols t-shirt designs and the prints of Andy Warhol.

The showcase will be running until 13th March 2011.

Gallery opening times: Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 6pm / Sunday 11am - 4pm.

L'incomplétude by Bruno Cavellec

French artist Bruno Cavellec will be holding ‘L' incomplétude’ exhibition at Gallery150, from 15th – 27th of March, 2011.

Award winner of the Rugby Open for two consecutive years, this self-taught artist explores the intimacy of his own personal experiences, expressed in the form of semi-abstract landscapes, which are not so much a mere depiction of unspoilt stretches of land, but rather a mirror or an echo of the artist’s thoughts and feelings. Often depicting solitary figures, the works convey both the existential struggle of mankind and the intensity and weight that these thoughts often bear for us, while simultaneously evoking a sense of man’s minuteness and vulnerability when faced with the boundless mysteries of the natural realm.

Cavellec, who has also illustrated the CD cover and booklet for the Scott Matthews album ‘Elsewhere’, often uses his own spiritual response to music as inspiration for his work, which can also be interpreted as a metaphor for psychological states of mind. From dramatically moody to light and airy, Cavellec, who greatly admires the works of Caspar David Friedrich and Edvard Munch, powerfully depicts the ‘seen’ and ‘unseen’, compelling the viewer to reflect upon their own interior world and existence.

At Gallery150, the painter and printmaker will be showcasing a fascinating and haunting series of large and small format oil and soil paintings and drypoint works.

The exhibition, which will be running from 15th -27th of March 2011, is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.

OPTICAL DELUSIONS

Garden Party

Gallery150, run and showcased by Leamington Studio Artists (LSA), will be presenting the ‘Martin Johnson: Optical Delusions’ exhibition, from 28th February until 13th March 2011.

This figurative artist and painter from Coventry, who has been developing his techniques since childhood, has also studied digital arts at Bournemouth University, and for the past ten years has been working as a concept artist and illustrator for many internationally renowned titles and video games, as well as teaching traditional and digital painting techniques at HND level.

On this occasion, Martin Johnson will be presenting a series of works on canvas using acrylic, life drawings and plein air sketches, including ‘Joust’, a dynamic depiction of a jousting tournament, which was recently exhibited at the Mitchell Gallery in Warwick.

Joust
The paintings on show at Gallery150 are from  the ‘Warwickshire Collection’,  an imaginative and exciting selection of works that intertwine Steampunk style with traditional techniques and a playful use of composition, colour and shadow. Johnson’s works unfold like storybooks with an almost timeless quality, where the landmarks, costumes and settings are familiar but difficult to pinpoint in time, creating the sensation of a window into an alternate past or a possible future, while leaving the viewer in suspense as to what will be the characters’ fate.
